A special and unique aspect of all programs at Fried Music is that we tailor the daily schedule to the needs of each student. For example, younger students are given more frequent breaks, while older students receive longer, more focused practice blocks. Pianists participate in more frequent performance classes, while string players have additional opportunities to work in technique classes.
As students approach competitions or concerts, their schedules may shift to include more practice time and performance opportunities to help refine their stage presence and manage nerves. With that in mind, the following is a general outline of what a typical day’s schedule might look like.
10 AM - Practice Plan/Lecture/Practice Mind
10:30 AM - Individual Practice
12:30 PM - Lunch
1:30 PM - Individual Practice, Ear Training or Recreational Activity
2:30 PM - Technique Class or Performance Class

Our annual Summer Practice Intensive is designed for young musicians who want to make meaningful progress before the school year begins. The program focuses on helping students deepen their understanding of how to practice effectively, building the habits and discipline necessary for long-term musical growth.
Our primary goal is substantial progress. Students who participate should come with a focused desire to improve and a genuine commitment to their craft. Many students also use the intensive as preparation for upcoming competitions or performances, though this is not required.
Fried Music warmly welcomes students of all musical levels and backgrounds. Our faculty are known for being supportive, encouraging, and deeply invested in each student’s growth. Within this environment, students are guided with care and high standards, and we consistently see remarkable progress, even after just one session of only twelve days!

Yes, you can pack lunch and snacks — we have a fridge, microwave, and air fryer! Students can also dine at one of the local downtown Alhambra restaurants. Students who go out for lunch should text the Program Supervisor, and children under 12 will have a chaperone while getting food.

Because our Summer Practice Intensive runs from June through August, we continue to receive inquiries throughout the summer, even after the official registration deadlines have passed. If you are seriously interested in joining a later session, please feel free to reach out. If space is still available, we would be happy to accommodate additional students.

Guided Practice
Practicing is difficult for any musician; it requires awareness, patience, concentration, and skills that take time and expertise to build. The importance of daily and focused practice cannot be underestimated. With plenty of time to practice and hone their repertoire, students will see their virtuosity and prowess improve exponentially. Fried Music supports the students in their practicing with staff and faculty who will give suggestions, check in on the students frequently, and answer any questions they may have.
Classes
The Summer Intensive Program is designed, not only to fast forward the student’s progress through good practice, but also to expose the young musician to a well-rounded musical education. This year, we will be offering technique classes and workshops, led by our artist faculty and/or guest artists.
Performances
Performance practice is an integral part of developing confidence as, not only a musician, but also as a person. Our intensive program will include performance classes, run by a member of our faculty. Community engagement concerts are also scheduled, for which students will receive volunteer hours. Even if the student does not feel ready at the beginning of a session, students will be prepared by the end of the session. It is recommended that students have a piece they have been working on previously to perform for this concert.
